GitHub has rolled out further improvements to Copilot code review, giving developers a clearer view of how a review evolves over time and making the resulting comments and commits easier to work with. These updates are now generally available.

Clearer review progress at a glance

The refreshed overview comment now shows Copilot’s current assessment of the pull request, the review effort level used, and a summary of findings grouped into:

  • Open: issues not yet addressed (marked new if introduced by a recent commit)
  • Resolved since last review: issues Copilot has validated as fixed, each linked back to the original inline comment
  • Previously missed: issues not tied to a new commit but newly found while re-reviewing existing changes

As more commits are pushed and re-reviews requested, the overview preserves progress across the whole review history instead of resetting each time.

Each Copilot comment also now includes a short title summarizing the finding, used both in the overview’s issue list and as an at-a-glance descriptor on the inline comment — making it faster to triage which issues to look at first.

Smarter auto-resolution

Building on the auto-resolution capability introduced on September 11, Copilot now:

  • Honors developer replies: if a reply asks to keep a comment open, Copilot no longer auto-resolves it.
  • Adds a resolution reason: comments are closed as either Won't Fix or Incorrect, based on the subsequent commits, so it’s clear why a thread was closed.

Smart commit messages for batch suggestions

When accepting an eligible, complete batch of Copilot code review suggestions, Copilot now generates a relevant commit title and optional description based on the actual changes being applied — including batches that mix Copilot and non-Copilot comments.
